The Four Faces of Jesus
The Four Faces of Jesus
Author: Martha Kilpatrick

The Lord Jesus has many names but He has four faces, symbols of His being. Four fascinating pictures of His endless wealth. Each one is a challenge to our measly idea of this unspeakably rich Son of God. Four sides, four manifestations of Jesus' character. Glimpses only, of His glittering facets. Few are those who can distinguish the four faces of Jesus. See His contrasting sides and know Him as He is . . . .

Matthew 11:29 NAS
Take my yoke upon you and learn
from Me, for I am gentle and humble in
heart; and you shall find rest for your souls.
For my yoke is easy and My load is light.

Jesus wore the yoke of the oxen.
An unfree harness,
servant of
ordinary labors in the dirt,
patient grinding of the wheat.

His yoke was not harnessed to the
pull of human reins.
For all His solving and serving of
people-dilemmas,
Jesus was the servant
only of His Father.

And the only ones who know the
Holy Face of the Ox
are those who duck under
His Divine Yoke and learn of Him there,
in all His astonishing lowliness,
His incomparable meekness.

The Yoke-calling is to come under the Servant's
own harness, coupled with Him.
Bound and strapped,
yet boundless and unfettered.

The Yoked Son binds Himself to my load
and wears the strain on His splintered shoulders while
I am simply carried on
His journey of my obedience.

That common field of oxen-tilling
is only this . . .
to attend the Father's desire
for earth's need of Him.

Under the ox-yoke with Him,
my weight of weary life is
easy and unburdened.
Just as He promised.

Our Splendid Savior is a Humble Servant,
plowing and grinding,
treading and serving,
solely
for His Father.
