"Forgetting" and "Remembering" . . . these are simply housecleaning tasks. You clean the house so that you can LIVE vitally and easily. If the goal is just cleaning the house, over and over, for what is the house cleaned? Emptiness! Many live just this way, ever fixing and arranging but never using the house for Life. Such is only a show - merely a stage - but not a progression toward something valuable.

Our life is like a house. It must be cleaned - and often - but it must also be "used to the full." Actually it's healthy if it is messed up again because of living. Real life, authentic life, is messy.

But we can't live just to deal with the past.

        What about this minute? this day? this year?
        Where are you headed? You will end up where you are going.
        You will arrive. Your destination somewhere is sure.

Will it be to arrive next year in nothingness with nothing gained and everything lost?
If there is not movement forward there is always movement backward!
Where are you going? What are you living for?

The famous quote from Braveheart: Some die and never live. Some live who never die.

Your life is precious, a creation of the Infinite God. You are uniquely fitted for a purpose so glorious you cannot imagine it . . . both in this life AND in the next! You are a treasure buried and you must dig to find it.

Your existence is a divine idea and as such it is worthy of a worthy goal. Paul didn't just forget (what lies behind),
he said "I press on toward the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus." Ph. 3:13, 14

Paul's determined, chosen goal was to know Christ and to actually become "like" Him by entering His very Life. To know Christ you have to enter His own goal. What was the goal of Jesus?

I do nothing of Myself
(of My own accord or on My own authority),
but I say(exactly what My Father has taught Me.
. . . (F)or I always do what pleases Him.
 
Think of the number of times the Father declared His pleasure in the Son.
"This is my Beloved Son in whom I am well pleased."
(Matt. 3:17, 17:5; Mark 1:11, 9:7; Luke 3:22)

It's an astonishing thing to grasp from scripture that Jesus' intent was not to save the world but to "please" His Father - whose goal was to save the world. Much is made of Jesus' love for humanity and little is made of His absolute love for His Father.

He lived only to please the Father - even if that meant dying.
The Bible states clearly that it was the Father's pleasure to crush Him
and that was the basis for His surrender in Gethsemane. (Isa. 53:10)
 
The goal of Jesus in every day, each step of His life journey was
to please His Father.
Jesus lived to please the Father only
It was His heart-motive.
His single-aim.
His only agenda.

Paul told the Colossians what he prayed for them.
". . . (W)e have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that
you may be filled with the knowledge of His will
in all spiritual wisdom and understanding
so that you may walk in a manner
worthy of the Lord,
to please Him in all respects."
Col. 1:9-12

If you want this one thing to be your focus of a brand new year,
continue to read the verses in Col. 1:10-12 and see what pleases God in all respects:

        1. bearing fruit in every good work
        2. increasing in the knowledge of God
        3. strengthening with all power, according to His glorious might
        4. attaining of all steadfastness and patience

And the result: giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in light.

Paul stated his aim and that of those with him in II Corinthians 5:9,
Therefore also we have as our ambition,
whether at home or absent, to be pleasing to Him.
Amplified: we are constantly ambitious and strive earnestly
to be pleasing to Him.

It's a choice. For now only a choice.
