“From Eden we lost not only the knowledge of God, the intimacy with God, we lost the desire for it.” — Martha Kilpatrick (CDotM, "One Resolve")

Genesis: In The Beginning, God
Genesis: In The Beginning, God
Author: Martha Kilpatrick

God is the beginning of all. What He does not begin, ends at its beginnings. From the fountain of His boundless imagination flow the inventings of our finest ideas. We are merely cups of varying levels of receptivity. Some narrow, some wide. What we begin, drawing out of the cauldron of human depravity and calling it God's plan, will find no support from Him . . . and no Brilliance of His Glorious Mind. He must begin whatever is begun. He initiates. We respond. He proclaims. We hear. He gives. We receive. He imagines . . . we are simply the clay of His inventive molding.

The last day of Creation is the Only Blessed Day
out of the seven days of God
and its increase will be endless.
It will be . . . the Last Day.
When we reach that day in Future Eternity,
it will be the day that lasts forever.
In the end . . .
the Only Day.
Unending.

There was no evening and morning after the seventh day.
Full midday light and no darkness.
There will be no more darkness when the day of God's rest
dawns in your life and the Son rises to ascend over your being.

. . . (B)ecause of the tender mercy of our God,
by which the rising sun will come to us from heaven
to shine on those living in darkness
and in the shadow of death,
to guide our feet into the path of peace.

Luke 1:78

Sabbath Rest is the believer's Now Enjoyment, a taste of forever.
When He said, "It is finished." Christ Jesus ushered in
a Sabbath for those who follow Him.
The rest of God is offered and remains available.

Now we who have believed enter that rest, just as God has said,
So I declared on oath in my anger, they shall never enter my rest.
And yet his work has been finished since
the creation of the world

For somewhere he has spoken about
the seventh day in these words: and
on the seventh day God rested from all his work.
It still remains that some will enter that rest . . . .

There remains then a Sabbath-rest for the people of God;
for anyone who enters God's rest also rests from his own work,
just as God did from his.
Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest
so that no one will fall by following their
example of disobedience.

Hebrews 4:3, 4, 6, 9 NIV

Rest was created by God and
a rest was given to Adam and Eve.
They gave the "rest" away and
lived cursed in strife and effort,
in constant guilt by sin.

Jesus won back the "rest" on the cross and
finished the work of redemption
that followed the work of creation.
The Sabbath is ours who are God's children through Christ.
A rest, not only from sin, but also from effort.

Jesus lives my life out, faces my strife,
achieves my calling,
solves my crises, conquers my foes,
subdues my people.
Performs my responsibilities!

I may rest in Him - who IS the Sabbath Rest -
to the exact degree that I let Him do the work
and "rest from (my) own work, just as God did from his."
